David Timmons Jr. Killed in Afghanistan, 2006
Lewisville, NC-- People traveling through part of Forsyth County will be on a newly named highway to honor those who serve for our country.
Saturday morning, NC Department of Transportation held a ceremony to designate U.S. 421 in Forsyth County a Blue Star Memorial Highway.
The designation honors all past, present and future veterans who proudly served in the armed forces, including Spc. David Timmons Jr.
Timmons was a 2001 graduate of West Forsyth High School and one of the first soldiers killed in Afghanistan in the line of duty.
Noe'l Walker was a guest speaker at the ceremony and remembered his life during her remarks. Walker considered Timmons her mentor and credits him with supporting her in all her activities from childhood into her teenage years.
Her desire to honor Timmons' sacrifice for his country led NCDOT to designate U.S. 421 in Forsyth County a Blue Star Memorial Highway.
Walker is a 2011 honors graduate from Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy and a current freshman at Delaware State University in the honors program.
