Greensboro, NC -- Patrice Faison stood in the shadow of a billboard on East Market Street on Monday afternoon, striking a pose with four students at Oak Hill Elementary School.
Faison, the school's principal, and the students were recreating the image that adorned that billboard -- a picture of them walking through Oak Hill's halls.
The picture of Faison and the four students will be up on the billboard through the end of May as part of a creative effort on the part of Guilford County Schools to honor teachers and school workers.
May is Thank A Teacher month for the school system. Three other billboards will each feature a teacher, a custodian and a cafeteria worker. Faison is happy those unsung heroes are getting some attention.
"I really like the fact that it's not just 'Thank A Teacher' [and] it's not just 'Thank A Principal,'" she said. "It's 'Thank A Custodian,' 'Thank A Cafeteria Assistant' and all the people who make the school community work. Sometimes I think we forget about those people."
Faison earned the billboard honor because she's the state principal of the year. She chose the four students to represent Oak Hill's diverse student body.
