They serve our country and come home to no job. The government estimates that nearly a million veterans are unemployed nationwide.

Now, the government wants to help our heroes. They're offering a year's worth of training help to unemployed veterans.

Here are the qualifications for the Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP):

*You must be between 35 and 60 years old
*Have an honorable discharge
*Not be eligible for other VA education benefits.
*The program must lead to a degree, certification and or training for a high-demand job.

The Employment Security Commission (ESC) says these veterans will become great employees.

You can apply now, but cannot start any training until June 1. VRAP will accept applications through March 31, 2014.

At this time only 45,000 veterans can take advantage of the program, so the ESC recommends signing up quickly.

For more information you can call your local Employment Security Commission office or visit the VRAP website.
