Triad-- For a lot of us, Memorial Day is about cookouts, an extra day off, sports and family fun.

But for the families of military service members, it's a time to honor and remember those who sacrificed their lives for all Americans.

So while you enjoy the three day weekend, here are a few Memorial Day related events that you may want to consider adding to your do list:

Sunday, May 27
2pm - Memorial Day Program: Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Greensboro

2pm - Guilford County Veterans Remembered at Veterans Memorial in Country Park, Greensboro.

5pm- Memorial Day Worship Service: Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, Kernersville. The church started this service during the Gulf War.

Monday, May 28
25th Annual Thomasville Memorial Day:
9am- Wreath Laying at Veterans Wall
9:30a- Families of Servicemen recognized
11:20a -Parade begins at the "Big Chair"
12:30p - All-American Parachute Team performs at Cushwa Stadium
1:30p- Plaque Presentations & Military Order of Purple Heart given to families.

11am - Memorial Service, Yadkin Co. Park in Yadkinville, NC, will include dedication of the Lance Corporal Daniel Freeman Swaim Playground (see photo). Cpl. Swaim was killed in 2005 in Iraq.

11:00am - Memorial Day Service, Lewisville, NC
Location: 6555 Shallowford Rd, sponsored by American Legion Post 522. Service will include Military fly over by US Air Force.

4:00pm - Eden- WWII Veterans Honored: Limo transportation to Fair Funeral home for event to honor them. Location on Boone Road in Eden

7pm - Greensboro Grasshoppers game featuring Wounded Warriors. Wounded Warriors sponsored by Furnitureland South.
