RALEIGH, NC -- Elizabeth Edwards' grave has become one of the most visited spots in Raleigh's Historic Oakwood Cemetery about 18 months after her death.
The grave for the wife of former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards does not yet have a headstone. Her plot has a tiny card printed with her name and a bouquet of purple flowers.
The Edwards family said this week they have commissioned a new marker from a sculptor. The sculptor is the same artist who carved the large statue of an angel on the neighboring grave of Edwards' son Wade Edwards. He died in a 1996 car accident.
Elizabeth Edwards was a frequent visitor to Oakwood before her death in December 2010. Cemetery staff said her plot is popular with people inspired by her books.
