Jacksonville, NC-- A band teacher at Jacksonville High School has been arrested and accused of having sex with a student.
Onslow County sheriff's deputies say 33-year-old Christopher David Howard was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with three counts of sexual activity with a student by a teacher and four counts of indecent liberties with a student.
A sheriff's deputy came upon Howard and a 17-year-old female student in a car together at a park.
Sheriff's deputies say the relationship may have started after a band concert in 2007.
According to CBS Station WNCT, Howard had been working as the band director at Jacksonville High School since 2001. He was also the director of the school's creative arts program.
He's originally from Salisbury, went to college at East Carolina University, and was also named Jacksonville High's teacher of the year in 2010-11.
