NEW BERN - The coastal wildfire in the Croatan National Forest grew to 8,000 acres Monday.
The blaze began last Thursday from a controlled burn, according to WRAL. So far the blaze has not injured anyone, or threatened property near New Burn.
An air-quality warning has been issued for Carteret, Craven, Jones, Onslow and Pamlico counties. Anyone who is sensitive to air pollution should avoid outdoor activities.
The smoke is visible along highways 70, 17 and 58 in Carteret, Craven, Jones and Onslow counties.
