Salisbury, NC -- Despite Salisbury Mayor Paul Woodson's decision not to proclaim Saturday as Pride Day for gays and lesbians, the second annual Gay Pride Festival was still held.
The event took place in a privately owned parking lot on the corner of Lee and Fisher Streets. Some 1,500 supporters showed up and took part in the festivities.
As for protestors of the event, only about eight attended. Two of which ventured into the festival and were asked to leave, which they did without incident. The number of protestors was significantly down from the nearly 200 that attended last year.
According to Salisbury police the festival has been very peaceful. Only one arrest was made, a man who was acting suspiciously was patted down and was found with an unknown substance.
