Police: Man Shot By Stray Bullet

(Winston-Salem, NC)  --  Officers responded to the 2400 block of N. Jackson Ave to investigate a report of a discharging firearm in the area. Witnesses at the scene advised that a sedan with a flat tire was seen leaving the area after 4-6 gunshots were discharged in the area. A black male was then observed getting into a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a black female, and leaving the area. No other information was obtained at this location.

A short time later, victim, Lamar Carpenter was dropped off at the Shell gas station, located directly adjacent to Baptist hospital, with a gunshot wound to his right ankle area. Officers responded to the area and spoke with Mr. Carpenter. He advised that he was walking in a 2400 block of Jackson Avenue when a small, dark colored sedan drove by him. He then heard gunshots and realized that he was struck on his right ankle by one of the rounds. Mr. Carpenter could not provide any further information or suspect description.

Mr. Carpenter is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Baptist hospital. The case remains open for further investigation.
