Mt. Airy, NC-- Two children are recovering after neighbors jumped into action and pulled them from a hot car.

Police in Mt. Airy said they got a call on Sunday around 11:15am  to River Hill apartments to check on the welfare of two unattended children.

When officers arrived, they found a two and three year old that had allegedly been left unsupervised in a vehicle for a long period of time.

Because of the hot temperatures and concern for  the children some of the neighbors, removed the children from the car and contacted the police department.

According to investigators, they found the children's mother inside of one of the apartment units.

After a brief investigation, the mother, Joanna Nichole Jones, was charged with Felony Child Abuse and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jones is under a 50,000.00 secured bond.

The Department of Social Services also assisted with the investigation.
