Graham, NC -- Saturday night the New Mount Zion Congregational Church was completely gutted by a fire. The Graham Fire department believes the fire was started by electrical problems.
Pastor Paul Dark was devastated when he got the phone call from the fire department saying his church was on fire. Pastor Dark and others spent Monday boarding up the windows to their once beloved church.
Members of the church are asking for help from the community to assist them in each step of the process to rebuild the church. The 62-year-old building must be demolished. Pastor Dark plans on starting from scratch with the rebuilding of the church.
The church was not insured because it was not up to code due to electrical problems. Dark claims that they were in the process of making the proper renovations to the church to bring it up to code.
