Greensboro, NC-- Police in Greensboro said a standoff that started around 4:15pm is now over.
Around 7:00pm, Police said the suspect was in custody. The man is identified as 52 year-old Thomas H. Goodson. Goodson surrendered peacefully, according to police.
Earlier in the day, Chief Ken Miller said the standoff started when a man forced a home health nurse and his mother out of the home on Cornwallis and refused to come out.
The nurse called 911 to report the incident.
Miller said the man had a shotgun and started breaking windows in the house but didn't fire any shots.
Police asked for voluntary evacuation from neighbors, and they are encouraging those who choose to stay to move to the back of their homes. Homeowners in the area were notified by 911 calls.
The police deployed its mobile command center and special response (SWAT) team, as well as a hostage negotiation team.
During the standoff police closed West Cornwallis from Granville Oaks Court to North Elm Street and North Elm Street from Fountain Manor Drive to Elmwood Drive. Again, the roads are now open.
