Brunswick, County, NC-- A Brunswick County man is facing deportation and years in prison for raping and impregnating an 11-year-old girl.

The Wilmington Star News is reporting that on Monday, Luis Perez Valencia, 35, pleaded guilty in Brunswick County Superior Court to one count of First-Degree Child Rape. The Judge handed down a sentence of: 194 to 240 months in prison.

In exchange for the plea, a second charge of Child Rape was dismissed, according to the newspaper.

Prosecutor Meredith Everhart told Judge Thomas Lock that the allegations came to light when the girl's mother took her to the doctor last August and a test revealed she was pregnant.

The then girl told her mother that Perez Valencia had sex with her twice. A third time he tried when he took her to work with him in Jacksonville but stopped because he was afraid he would get caught, Everhart said in court.

Everhart said Perez Valencia threatened the girl to keep her silent by saying if she told anyone, she and her little brothers would be taken from their family.

During the investigation, Perez Valencia denied the rape but DNA testing of the terminated pregnancy's "products of conception" proved he was the father.

Perez Valencia, who is in the country illegally from Mexico, was aided in court by a Spanish-speaking interpreter. He faces deportation from the country and a bar to legal reentry when his sentence expires.
