Browns Summit, NC - Lynnea Dickerson doesn't want gifts or a lavish party for her 16th birthday. She wants people to donate to a cause dear to her heart.
"I have all the time in my life to get gifts but this is a once in a lifetime chance...you only turn 16 once and I feel since everyone makes a big deal about turning 16. I want to make it a big deal, but for better reasons," said Dickerson.
Dickerson wants friends, family and neighbors, to donate to the American Diabetes Association in honor of Evelyn Lowe. Lowe is Dickerson's grandmother and she died last year in February due to diabetes.
"No one should have to suffer through diabetes," said Dickerson.
She is turning 16 years old on August 1, 2012. Why is Dickerson on this sweet mission?
"I just thought this was a good time to give money back to the association that helped my grandmother so much."
Dickerson told News 2's Tony Smith, "I am turning 16 years-old. Instead of having a huge party or a "Sweet 16" all I am asking for is for friends, family, and neighbors, to donate to the American Diabetes association in honor of my nana, Evelyn Lowe who died last year on Feb. 7."
If you would like to donate, share Lynnea Dickerson's Birthday Wish Facebook Page or visit her Donation Page.
All donations go to the American Diabetes Association Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
