Winston-Salem, NC - Drivers on U.S 52 in Winston-Salem are no strangers to road work, and drivers should prepare for more road work as the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) continues working on improvements on the highway to prepare for the closure of parts of Business 40 in 2018.
This week, road crews will continue shoulder improvement work that began over the weekend. This shoulder improvement will allow for an additional lane to be added on both the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 52 between Business 40 and the M.L.K.., Jr. Exit.
All of the road work is a part of the Highway 52 improvement project that is preparing the road to be the primary detour route when parts of Business 40 are closed in 2018 for major repairs.
The NCDOT says adding lanes and closing exits will allow Highway 52 to carry the increase in traffic when Business 40 closes, and will make the Highway safer for drivers.
The construction on U.S. 52 between Business 40 and M.L.K., Jr. will be completed by November according to the NCDOT.
