As of 5:00 PM, two storms were churning away in the tropics.  The first is Tropical Storm Ernesto.  Winds were 60 mph and the storm is traveling to the west at about 18 mph.

Tropical Storm Florence winds were 50 mph as of 5:00 PM and the storm is moving WNW at 15 mph.

Neither storm is an immediate threat to the U.S.

T.S. Ernesto should be just south of Jamaica on Sunday.  A Tropical Storm Warning has been posted for the country.  It is currently moving over warm waters with little shear.  Therefore, Ernesto is forecast to strengthen and could potentially become a hurricane in the next 24 hours.

T.S. Florence is currently much closer to Africa than the U.S.  However, it is moving WNW through the Atlantic.  The current forecast for the storm is to take more of a westward turn and slow a bit.  Even though current conditions are unfavorable, there is the possibility for strengthening in the next few days.

We will continue to to watch the storms in the News 2 Weather Center.
