Guilford County, NC -- According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, one in every 10 people on the road between 10:00 pm and 2:00 am on Friday and Saturday night are driving impaired and well over the legal limit at .01.

Numbers like that are why local law enforcement agencies want to work together to fight drunk driving. Colonel Randy Powers with the Guilford County Sheriff's Department said, "The goals is to reduce driving under the influence, driving while impaired on the roads, which causes accidents, many of them being fatalities."

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office, Greensboro Police, High Point Police, and UNC G Police departments want to team up to start a drunk driving task force. They would work in shifts in areas known for wrecks caused by drunk drivers to try to get them off the roads before something happens.

The project would be 100% funded by the Governor's Highway Safety Program, but will still need approval from the Guilford County Board of Commissioners on September 20th.
