(Chapel Hill, NC) -- Professors and other employees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill are mounting an effort to get Chancellor Holden Thorp to change his mind about resigning in the face of multiple scandals.

About 250 faculty members of North Carolina's flagship public university on Tuesday heard Thorp express his thanks for their support, but repeat that he planned to give up the top job on campus in June. Faculty members adopted a resolution anyway, hoping the gesture will keep Thorp from resigning next June and return to teaching chemistry.

Thorp is dealing with multiple scandals from football players accepting gifts, to no-show classes, to fundraisers traveling for personal reasons using donated money.
