Durham, NC -- A man was killed, and two people were injured after a high-speed chase ended in a fiery crash on Highway 98 early Saturday.
Highway Patrol said the chase started when a man tried to avoid a DWI checkpoint at 2:30 a.m.
Troopers chased the man, driving a Chrysler Crossfire, and he lost control of his car, crossed the center line and hit a truck with two people inside.
Both vehicles burst into flames.
The two people in the truck got out, and EMS took them to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver in the Crossfire died on the scene.
A trooper hit a utility pole to avoid the wreck, but wasn't hurt.
Investigators have not identified anyone involved in the collision.
