NEW YORK -- The U.S. Army has captured and detained more than 200 Afghan teenagers in the war at a prison next to Bagram Airfield, the U.S. government announced.
The teenagers were all held for about a year at a time.
The State Department says the detainees are "enemy combatants." The announcement came in a report from the United Nations on America's compliance with the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.
The U.S. says some of the teens are still at the base, which will be turned over to the Afghan government.
U.S. officials say most of the juvenile detainees were around 16 years old.
