Winston-Salem, NC -- A man tried to rob a local Food Lion, but left empty handed, thanks to quick thinking by store employees.
Police say an armed suspect entered the store after 11:30 p.m., right before closing time.
Employees told police the man approached one of them and demanded money from the store's safe. When the employees had trouble opening the safe, the suspect walked to the front of the store, and the staff ran into their office and locked the door.
With that, the suspect left without any money or property.
The department's K-9 unit was unable to find the suspect, and the Criminal Investigations Division is looking into this case.
Anyone with information on this attempted armed robbery should call Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.
