Pittsboro, NC -- A man convicted of kidnapping his 2-year-old son from North Carolina and fleeing with him to Mexico six years ago is sentenced to between five and six years in prison.
Jorge Aguilera was sentenced Monday in Chatham County, where his son, Edwin Gonzales, was kidnapped in 2006. Aguilera was convicted in October of first-degree kidnapping and burglary.
Sentencing was delayed until Monday because authorities still had not found the now nine-year-old boy. He was reunited with his mother last month.
Authorities say Aguilera and several men broke into Florentina Coria's home wearing ski masks and latex gloves, tied her up with duct-tape, took the boy and threatened to kill him if she called police.
Chatham County Assistant District Attorney Kayley Taber asked for at least 20 years in prison.
