Greensboro, NC -- More than 1,100 children who might otherwise have
gone without will get something for Christmas thanks to a collaboration of Triad churches.
"The Christmas Store" will open Friday afternoon at West Market Street United Methodist Church. The store offers
parents who might not otherwise be able to afford gifts for their
children the chance to shop in a department store setting. They're asked
to make a $1 donation to participate.
The store is not open to
the general public. The 400 families who will participate were suggested
to the churches by social workers or other community groups. The shopping runs from 3-7 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Each
child whose parents participate will receive a pair of jeans, a sweater
or sweatshirt, a T-shirt, a toy, a book and a coat, hoodie or pajamas.
