Sgt. Gregory Martin, Scott Sica
Jonesville, NC-- In the fall of 2012, almost 16 years to the day of an officer's murder, an arrest was made.
Sgt. Gregory Martin made a routine traffic stop on Highway 77 in Yadkin County around 2 a.m. on October 5, 1996. It was Martin's last work in the line of duty. Investigators said the suspect shot Martin several times, and then took off leaving Martin to die on the side of the road.
Martin only 30 years-old and was the first Jonesville Police Officer killed in the line of duty.
Investigators have worked feverishly on the case and the Governor's office even increased the award. All the work paid off on October 3, 2012, Scott V. Sica of Cape Coral, FL was arrested in Florida and charged with that crime.
He was extradited back to NC about a week later. Monday, January 28, a Yadkin County Grand Jury indicted Sica for Martin's murder, along with two other suspects.
Police announced the arrests of Marc Peterson Oldroyd of Rockwood, TN and Brian Eugene Whitaker of Cape Coral, FL.
Sica, Oldroyd and Whitaker were all indicted for charges of: First Degree Murder, Attempted Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery and Possession of Stolen Goods.
