Eden, NC -- The City of Eden is taking steps to promote heart disease awareness to its employees and residents.
February is recognized as "Heart Month".
To promote awareness, city officials decorated the entrance sign at City Hall with red lights for night time viewing and red decorations for day time viewing.
According to the City of Eden Wellness Committee, more women are having heart attacks and being diagnosed with heart disease. One problem is, their symptoms are often ignored, misdiagnosed, or non-existent.
Heart problems may not be something that can be completely prevented, but there are ways to reduce risks.
Along with decorating the sign, the Wellness Committee encouraged all city employees to wear red on Friday, February 1, 2013.
Additionally, the Wellness Committee hung posters, with important information about the causes of heart disease and the symptoms of a heart attack, throughout City Hall.
