Davie County, NC - Several acres of wetlands discovered in the fall will delay the construction of a new Ashley Furniture Distribution Center for about one year.
Terry Bralley, president of the Davie County Economic Development Commission, describes the delay as a minor setback. Bralley told WFMY News 2 the furniture company has already brought jobs and opportunities to the area and that residents are willing to wait a bit longer to ensure the construction meets all environmental regulations.
The new facility is projected to bring more than 550 jobs to our area over the next five years. The total payroll for those jobs is estimated at $15.5 million. The expanded facility was slated to open this summer. But, now Bralley says Ashley will likely break ground this summer, instead.
Ashley Furniture is the largest manufacturer of home furniture in the world. The company received an $825,000 state grant to encourage it to expand in our state.
