Winston-Salem, NC -- Hundreds of motorcycles lined the streets of Winston-Salem today to say goodbye the Forsyth County Hell's Angels president.
Last week, someone shot 48-year-old Dwight Sluder in his home in Germanton. Thursday, authorities wrapped up their investigation at Sluder's home, and began to concentrate on the logistics needed for today's funeral.
Police were out in force, and tell us the precession ended up being over two miles long with more than 500 motorcycle riders. But it wasn't just mourners that showed up in force, hundreds of onlookers showed up too.
One onlooker said, "For a funeral you usually think of people and stuff, but to see all the motorcycles and everybody coming together, it's just really really interesting, enough to make us pull over, you know."
Those just wanting to witness the event, lined the roads from the Hayworth Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway, down Peters Creek Parkway to the Parklawn Memorial Cemetery.
Captain Bill Bobb with the Winston-Salem Police Department says, "We brought in significant manpower to ensure that we could move traffic and also provide for public safety, a lot of folks were interested with the large number of motorcycles here today."
Police wouldn't give us the details on how much extra manpower was needed today to make sure everything went smoothly, but when we asked about the expense of bringing in all those officers earlier this week, they assured us they avoided additional costs and re-arranged schedules to avoid overtime.
The preliminary autopsy results show the gunman shot Sluder in the head. Police are still looking for the gunman and additional evidence.
Search warrants are still in the hands of the Forsyth County District Attorney. If you have any information, you can call Forsyth County Sheriff's Office at 727-2112 or Winston-Salem Crimestoppers at 727-2800.
