Greensboro, NC-- North Carolina A&T State University officials announced today Reduction-In-Force (RIF) efforts along with support resources for impacted employees. N.C. A&T faculty and staff were alerted last week about a 10 percent budget reduction of $10.6 million a year for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 fiscal years. In addition, the University decreased total operational lines by $5.5 million (travel, equipment, and supplies). The 10 percent budget reduction required A&T to cut 71.25 total positions this fiscal year equaling 65.25 unoccupied positions and six occupied positions. The positions affected by the RIF represent six of 2,310 total positions at the University.
Monday, supervisors talked one-on-one with employees affected by the RIF, providing the state mandated 30-day notice for SPA employees prior to August 27 layoff. The Division of Human Resources also counseled employees and explained how A&T will work aggressively to redeploy affected employees into comparable positions within the University. The intended outcome of this internal matching of comparable positions (similar jobs/similar salaries) is to identify and offer available job openings in areas of the campus experiencing growth due to grants and research.
A&T's Division of Human Resources is offering various resources for those affected by the RIF such as redeployment support, health insurance, and other support resources (see attached A&T Support Resources list). Personnel affected by the RIF may also take advantage of Layoff Priority Consideration if they apply for a job within the North Carolina State System; professional counseling through the State Employee Assistance Program (EAP); and other resources provided by the Office of State Personnel.
All hiring for A&T has been suspended except for positions that provide direct classroom instruction as well as positions critical to law enforcement, health care and public safety. Click on NC A&T to view additional information regarding the school's budget.
