Enfield, NC-- Halifax County officers say a 71 year old woman is out on bond Tuesday after spending time in jail for assault.
Officers say the Enfield woman hit her husband over the head with a frying pan multiple times Friday morning. Deputies responded to an assault call in 5000 block of Justice Branch Road and found paramedics treating a man at the home for head injuries.
Investigators later determined the man to James Lewis, 85. They say the woman who did the hitting was his wife Rosie Lee Lewis, 71. Officers say the assault happened after the two argued about what Rosie Lewis had cooked for breakfast. They say the couple continued arguing as Lewis cooked another meal and it escalated.
During the fight officers say James Lewis raised his cane as if he were ready to hit his wife. Rosie Lewis then hit him on the head several times with an iron frying pan, knocking him to the ground.
Deputies charged Rosie Lewis with assault with a deadly weapon. Friday, she was being held without bond because the charge stemmed from a domestic dispute.
James Lewis was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center, where he received 50 stitches to close his head wounds, Salmon said.
Officer Steve Salmon told WFMY News Tuesday that as of Tuesday, Rosie Lewis was no longer in jail. He was not sure when she bonded out.
