Asheboro, NC- Deputies answered a call to Wheatmore High School shortly after 10:00pm on Tuesday night. They received a report of a body found inside the school.

Randolph County Communications says they received a call from maintenance workers that they found someone inside a locked mechanical room at the school.

Investigators identified the deceased man as John Wayne Neal of Randleman. According to the school system, Neal had gone to the new school to measure the air handling units for filters. Authorities say he had not been heard from since mid-day on Tuesday.

Mr. Neal's body was found at the base of a stairway which leads to the air handling units on the second floor.

Cleaning personnel saw a county work van parked outside the school, but had not seen anyone working. They began to search the school to look for the van's driver before leaving for the day.

The Randolph County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Mr. Neal's death was accidental, pending further examination.
