McLeansville, NC -- Something also effective October first, the McLeansville Prison in Guilford County will close.

Correctional Superintendent James Lacewell says, "This kind of ends an era in Guilford County, the prison's been around since '38 so we've been here for a long time, so this kind of brings it to a close."

The inmates have been relocated over the last month, with the last few being moved yesterday. Crews brought back a few inmates to help clean and pack up the rest of the prison equipment. That's so it can be used somewhere else.

"We transferred our firearms out today, we still got kitchen equipment, we got beds needed in other parts of the state, so we'll break down beds, and make sure beds, lockers... everything thats of use will be transferred to another facility."

Superintendent Lacewell says the clean up process will probably take another week. Then all the staff will move on to their various new assignments.
