Mayodan, NC -- A football player from McMichael High School in Rockingham County was tased after he resisted an arresting officer.
School officials say the incident started when 17-year-old Joshua Hayes became disruptive during a training film session. He was asked to leave the class by the coach and refused. The school principal, Dr. Roger Whitley, came in and asked Hayes to leave. He refused and Whitley then called 911.
Cpl. Frank Martin arrived at the classroom and asked Hayes to leave, but was met with shouts of profanity. Hayes then became combative as Martin tried to put him under arrest. Officials say he attempted to encourage others to join him in his resistance.
Martin then used a Taser to stun Hayes at which point he complied. Two baggies of marijuana were found on Hayes when he was searched.
Joshua Hayes is charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Disorderly Conduct, Second Degree Trespass, and Resisting a Public Officer. His bond was set at $21,000 secured.
