Caswell County, NC -- The National NAACP has agreed to take on the Case of a Caswell County man accused of shooting two children. Local leaders believe the shooting was racially motivated. The local chapter of the NAACP met Sunday afternoon with community supporters at Cedar Grove Memorial building in Yanceyville. Supporters also found out that the U.S. Department of Justice launched a federal investigation into the case involving John Fuqua. Investigators charged Fuqua in a shooting involving children in September of 2009. Authorities said Fuqua injured two children after shooting a shotgun near his home as the victims walked down the road. One child was hit in the face and the other was hit in the arm. Neighbors said they heard Fuqua yell racial slurs before the incident happened. The local chapter of the NAACP has held many news conferences and community meetings as a "call to action." The NAACP wants Fuqua charges to include assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. The president of the North Carolina NAACP, Rev. William Barber, says it been a faulty investigation from the beginning after Fuqua's bond was originally set at $5,000 and then eventually increased. Barber said he believes the the crime was racially motivated and he wants to see justice served.
Fuqua's next court appearance is Nov. 10.
