Mayodan, NC -- Rivers continue to rise in Rockingham County, and the Dan River isn't expected to crest until Friday morning.

Campers spending time along the Dan River wait for better weather, but they are not having much luck. The rainy weather is now more than just a bother for people staying at Dan River Campground--it's a potential threat.

"I've already said my prayers and we're just praying that it's about as far as it's going to go," explained Dan River Campground owner, Glenn Bozorth.

"I knew this was coming, so I got some groceries," said Greg Frey, who lives on Bethlehem Church Road in Eden. By Thursday evening, the Dan River had reached his driveway and the road was closed. "It usually lasts a day or two and the river goes right back down."

Frey does not plan to leave his home until the water recedes. However, several people rode around barricades, ignored road closure signs and risked driving through the rising water.

"That's not smart," said Dean Venable with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office. "Once you get in as much as some say 6 inches of water, you can lose your vehicle. It will become a boat." He said additional deputies were put on patrol Thursday night due to the rising floodwaters. "You've got to prepare for the worse."
