Greensboro, NC -- Greensboro fire crews closed part of Tate Street early Friday because of a fire at a rental house.

Greensboro Police Chief David Douglas says the fire started in a bedroom of the rental house and it was likely started by some kind of smoking material.

The area between Walker Avenue and Carr Street was closed during the morning commute and UNCG students were advised to avoid the area.

Douglas says one room within the house was completely gutted, but no one was seriously injured. There was an estimated $25,000 in damages.

Crews are testing the smoke detectors to see why they didn't activate.
