Rain Causes Several Sewage Spills Across Triad

Triad, NC -- Heavy rains from what was left of Hurricane Ida dropped several inches of rain across the Triad.

The heavy rains are to blame for several sewage spills around the Triad including:

-- 3,000 gallons overflowed on West Burton Road in High Point, spilling into Richford Creek on Thursday.

-- 2,000 gallons overflowed on Shamrock Road in High Point, spilling into Oak Hollow Lake on Thursday.

-- 1,200 gallons overflowed on South Aycock Street in Greensboro, spilling into the North Buffalo tributary of the Haw River basin on Thursday.

-- 2,000 gallons overflowed at the 4100 block Henderson Road in Greensboro, spilling into the North Buffalo tributary of the Haw River basin on Thursday.

-- 2,000 gallons overflowed at the 4000 block Henderson Road in Greensboro, spilling into the North Buffalo tributary of the Haw River basin on Thursday.

-- 2,340 gallons overflowed at the Holly Ridge Road due to pipe failure. The sewage spilled into the Reedy Fork Creek tributary of the Haw River basin.

-- 400,000 to 500,000 gallons overflowed on Boywood Road in Burlington, spilling into the Haw River on Wednesday.

Municipalities are required by law to report sewage spills over more than 1,000 gallons that reach surface waters.
