Davie County, NC -- Deputies in the Triad have suspended the manhunt for a suspect accused of kidnapping a 2-month-old child.

Police in Conover issued an Amber Alert on Sunday night after they say 37-year-old Saturnino Ortega-Vidal took off with 2-month-old Catalin Hoard around 7:30 pm.

A Davie County deputy spotted and stopped Ortega-Vidal's car on I-40 around 1:45 Monday morning. While talking with the deputy, the suspect sped away and led deputies and Highway Patrol troopers on a brief chase.

Davie County dispatchers say Ortega-Vidal then bailed out of the car and ran away. Officers found Hoard safe inside the car.

The baby was reunited with her mother at Baptist Hospital, according to Conover police Sgt. Ronnie Morrow. The 2-month-old went to the hospital to be checked out, but doesn't appear to have sustained any injuries.

Davie County deputies used dogs to try and track the suspect, but say the dogs lost the scent due to rainy weather. Dispatchers say Forsyth County deputies and Winston-Salem police officers were also called in to help in the search.

Conover police tell WFMY News 2 that Ortega-Vidal is the boyfriend of the child's mother and took off with the girl after the couple got into an argument.

Ortega-Vidal is wanted on charges including First Degree Kidnapping and Assault on a Female. It isn't clear when or if deputies will resume an active search for Ortega-Vidal.
