Fayetteville, NC -- An autopsy reported released Tuesday shows 5-year-old Shaniya Davis was sexually assaulted.
Davis was reported missing on November 10 from her home in Fayetteville. Her body was found nearly a week later in a wooded area.
According to the autopsy obtained by WRAL-TV, Davis died of asphyxiation and that injuries she suffered were consistent with a sexual assault. She was found wearing only an adult-sized black sweatshirt and panties when her body was found, according to the report.
Fayetteville Police said in November they believed Davis was asphyxiated and sexually assaulted.
Mario McNeill is being charged with first-degree murder and first-degree rape of a child. He is accused of picked the girl up in front of the home and driving her to a hotel where she was last seen alive.
The girl's mother, Antoinette Davis, is charged with trafficking her daughter and child abuse involving prostitution.
