Mount Airy, NC -- The director of the Surry County Arts Council says TV Land, which owns the Andy Griffith statue in Mount Airy, will send a maintenance worker Thursday at 9:00 pm to remove the paint.
The story of the statue being defaced is prompting some people to take a step toward catching the vandals.
Tanya Jones, Executive Director of the Surry County Arts Council, says they think the statue was vandalized Saturday night. The vandals painted Sheriff Andy Taylor's hair green. Part of his face and badge were painted red.
Jones says after the story ran, people have contacted the Arts Council to donate money for the reward. She wasn't sure exactly how much reward was being offered.
The Arts Council is also beefing up security by modifying their surveillance camera to capture a larger part of the area.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to Mount Airy Crimestoppers at (336) 786-4000.
