Greensboro, NC -- When a Greensboro woman saw our story Wednesday night on how animal abuse drains the Guilford County Animal Shelter she decided she had to do something about it.

Helen Brooks said she packed her car as full as she could get it with food and took it straight to the animal shelter. It was more than $600 worth of food, adding up to more than 300 pounds.

"Just really tugged at my heart because I'm an animal lover and I have two cats. And I've had dogs, and I felt that I needed to do something. And I was able to do something so I decided I would," said Brooks.

She said she would have donated more, but she couldn't fit it in the car.

The animal shelter told WFMY News 2 several other people also responded to Wednesday night's story with donations.
