Hickory, NC -- The father of a disabled girl killed in North Carolina last year has been barred from leaving the United States.
Australia native Adam Baker was arrested Tuesday and charged with identity theft and obtaining property by false pretense.
Baker was being held Wednesday on $10,000 bond in Catawba County.
Jail records show federal immigration officials have issued a detainer order for Baker, meaning he's prohibited from leaving the country while the order is in effect.
A call to his lawyer was not immediately returned.
Baker is the father of 10-year-old Zahra Baker, who was reported missing Oct. 9. Investigators later found most of her remains.
Adam Baker is not charged in her death. Her stepmother, Elisa Baker, is charged with second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
