Kernersville, NC - Almost four years ago, the DiGerolamo family received the most devastating news a family could get. Vinny was diagnosed with Cancer. Within days an entire community came together to help.
Within a few long weeks of intense chemotherapy and radiation treatments, Vinny's family saw a need to help other children going through the same thing.
In 2009, Vinny, his dad Charlie and mom Sarah formed the foundation Kids of Childhood Cancer. All the proceeds go to families in need on an individual basis at Brenner Children's Hospital.
That's where Bowzer of the group Sha Na Na comes in. Charlie used to play the group's classics on the way to Vinny's chemotherapy treatments. Vinny fell in love with the music. The DiGerolamo's emailed Vinny to tell him their story and just like that, an instant friendship was formed.
Bowzer & the Stingrays are throwing a benefit concert this Saturday night to help the foundation. Bowzer's Rock & Roll Sock Hop Benefit Concert is at the R.J. Reynolds Auditorium in Winston-Salem at 7pm. Tickets start at $15. You can buy tickets 336-721-1945 or click here for more information.
