Reidsville, NC -- On Tuesday, a Reidsville family will know whether their baby boy has a shot at a "normal life".
Eight-month-old Jaxx Denny was born without six ribs on his right side, without his right kidney, and a severely curved spine.
Baby Jaxx was supposed to have surgery last month, but doctors discovered a complication. His spinal cord was attached to the skin around it.
In the same visit, Jaxx contracted an ear infection that left him hospitalized.
Jaxx's parents, Pete and Tammy Denny, have said all along, prayers are helping stay strong. Prayer is also uniting an entire community behind the Denny family.
And prayers are what they believe, will ultimately, save Baby Jaxx's life.
"Everything checked out beautifully today. He sounds great and everything's ready to go. I think we're ready to go too," said Tammy Denny.
If the spinal cord surgery goes as planned, on February 28, Jaxx is scheduled to have his VEPTR surgery, where doctors will rebuild his rib cage.
If both surgeries are successful, doctors said Jaxx will live a normal life.
"I fertilize grass for a living. This is so far beyond us. We're trusting in the Lord and I know he's got a great plan for Jaxx. I just cannot wait to see it. I can't wait to see the outcome," said Pete Denny.
There are lots of hospital bills and travel expenses for the Denny family, so friends are hosting a golf tournament to help raise money for them. The event will take place April 21, at Oak Hills Golf & Event Center. If you'd like to play, you can email Shane Woodall at firstname.lastname@example.org.
