Greensboro, NC - Moving around in the minor league baseball system is an every day occurence. So when players get to be the boys of summer in their home state, it's a treat.
Three players on the Greensboro Grasshoppers roster are from North Carolina this season.
Pitcher Austin Brice is from Pittsboro, NC. The 6'4" 205-pound right hander played for the GCL Marlins last year.
Right-hander Brad Mincey will head to Greensboro after playing with Jupiter last season. The 6'0" 190-pound pitcher was drafted in the 28th round in 2011.
The final North Carolinian on the roster for opening day is an outfielder the Hoppers fans saw last season. Rand Smith also played for Jupiter last season.
The big fish in the pond this season include 1st round draft pick Jose Fernandez. The 6'3" 230 pound right handed pitcher hails from Tampa, FL. He played in Jamestown last season.
The 2nd round pick is Adam Conley from Olympia, WA. The 6'3" 200-pound lefty played for the GCL Marlins last season.
The two returners to the squad that played with Greensboro last year are outfielder James Wooster, catcher Wilfredo Gimenez, pitcher Greg Nappo, and pitcher Kevin Cravey.
