Greensboro, NC-- Twenty -four police officers laced up their skates and taped up their sticks for a charity hockey game.
Its the annual Sgt. Huthchens charity hockey event, a fundraising match to honor fallen police officers. This year the name of Russell Willingham was added to the event. He was a Winston Salem police officer , who was killed when his cruiser crashed as he was responding to a call .
All proceeds from the event go to a memorial scholarship fund for deserving students. This year the officers want to raise 5 thousand dollars through a raffle and ticket sales to the game.
Officer TJ Bloch said it is a friendly hockey match but it is still competitive, but the goal is to raise money to honor fallen officers and to get together in fellowship with fellow officers.
