Lexington, NC --  Thirteen year old Makayla Compton was like any normal teenager until last spring.

First dizzy spells, then came a diagnosis: cancer.

The young Davidson County girl had a brain tumor, but that didn't stop her from making wishes, two of them.

The second one came true Sunday.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation granted Makayla a bedroom makeover.

It came omplete with new furniture and a zebra theme just like she wanted.

Makayla's first wish came true earlier this year when she and her parents learned she was cancer free.

Lacey Compton is Makayla's mother.  She said Makayla was courageous through all of her treatments including surgery to remove the tumor last year.

"She's my hero. I've told her since day one that she's been my hero, and she really is," shared Lacey Compton.

Makayla loved her new bedroom as her parents wheeled her into the room.

"It's not what I imagined," she said. "It's a lot better."

Brian Compton stayed close to his daughter as she took it all in.

"Just to see your child happy, makes you happy," stated Brian Compton.

Makayla will continue to get checkups every three months for the next year.
Then every six months after that up to the next five years.

So, doctors will keep an eye on her but she is expected to recover.
