EAST ISLIP, NY -- A small plane traveling from North Carolina has made an emergency landing in a state park in New York.
State park police say the single-engine Cessna landed on a runway used by model airplanes at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, Long Island just before 4 p.m. Sunday. No one was injured.
Police say the 1977 Cessna -- piloted by David J. Jensen along with a student pilot -- was traveling to Brookhaven on Long Island when it developed engine trouble.
Authorities say the aircraft will be dismantled and removed by a vehicle since planes are not permitted to take off from the park. Officials are investigating.
