Rocky Mount, NC -- Andy's Burgers Shakes & Fries has officially changed its name as part of its plans for a major expansion outside of North Carolina.
The fast-food chain announced Tuesday that it will be known as Highway 55 Burgers Shakes and Fries. A statement from the Mount Olive-based restaurant company said the restaurant will continue to serve the same menu of traditional American classics in a 1950s diner setting.
Julia Fine of Sanderson & Associates said the chain has signed deals for restaurants in Florida, South Carolina, eastern Virginia and western North Carolina.
Fine also said the name change grew out of concerns about a potential legal battle over the federal trademark for the name "Andy's" that arose as the company prepared to expand.
Andy's first opened in Goldsboro in 1991.
