New York-- An elderly New York couple is dead and a contributing factor may have been poor cell phone coverage.
CNN and WABC is reporting that while taking a trip to New York's Catskill Mountains, the Manhattan couple's car slid off an embankment. The two were not far from their vacation home in Andes, NY.
Investigators said the couple, identified as Arthur and Madeleine Morris, made nine cell phone calls for help. The couple apparently tried to call a relative, a neighbor and 911 several times but the calls were unsuccessful.
Arthur died when he was crushed by the car and Madeleine who walked with a cane, made it to a neighbor's empty home and huddled on the porch where she died.
The couple's son told WABC, "My mother apparently wrapped herself in a tarp and the weather dropped and she died."
The family decided to share the story to highlight the possible risks of poor cell phone coverage.
They said the husband and wife only carried a cell phone for emergencies.
