Greensboro, NC - Fried green or cooked in a sauce pan, tomatoes are the heart of many meals. And this weekend you can taste some of the best, fresh off the vine or even participate in a giant tomato contest.
WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain was live at the North Carolina A&T University Farm on McConnell Road ahead of Saturday's Tomato Festival.
The event includes a Tomato Cooking Contest, Tour of NC A&T's farm test plots, 40 plus varieties of tomatoes for public tasting, (They will vote on their favorites), kids activities, live music, tomato cooking demo, and more! There is even a giant tomato contest! Lots of fun for the entire family. In the end, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Guilford County Center wants the event to promotes local foods and support home gardens.
The 3rd Annual Tomato Tasting Festival on Saturday, July 14th from 8am-12pm at the NC A&T Farm. There is a cash prize for the best tomato based recipe and the largest tomato.
